This start-up specialises in developing a platform for international travel and hospitality professionals. Its 70 000 customers include hotel chains like Holiday Inn, Radisson or NH Hoteles and independent operators offering accommodation to travelers.

A unicorn is a company that has a value of more then 1 billion US$. The Belgian services platform for hotel chains is the fifth company after Collibra, Odoo, team.blue and Deliverect.

The software adjusts the prize real time to conditions (‘yield management’), increasing it when it senses high demand and decreasing it when bookings are low. This is a technique known for air travel, but as an unsold hotel room for a night can never be recovered, such techniques are also applied for hospitality companies.

After an investment of $370 million from an American fund, Lighthouse’s capital has now passed the one billion mark, both in dollars and in euros. Founded in Ghent in 2012 by Gino Engels, Matthias Geeroms and Adriaan Coppens, Lighthouse has twelve entities including major bridgeheads in the USA, Spain and Singapore. It employs a total of 700 people, 270 of which are based in Belgium.
