The first railway station in Mons was opened in 1841, but it is the new station that opened on December 18th, 2024 that is getting the news recently. Mons station’s story is one of ambition, controversy, and progress.

Designed by the renowned Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, the construction of the fourth station began in 2013. The goal was to turn Mons into a modern intermodal transport hub. However, delays, cost overruns, and construction setbacks plagued the project. The result is a visually stunning, state-of-the-art facility that redefines the skyline of Mons.

The new station supports smooth transfer between trains, buses and taxis, is accessible for persons with reduced mobility, integrates the Grands Pr+es shopping area via a pedestrian bridge and has a higher capacity.
