North Macedonia has not yet taken the economic benefit of NATO membership – and there are opportunities.

To facilitate the market access, there will be a Military Clothing and Textiles Industry Day Event on 10 November 2025.

Being member of NATO opens economic opportunity to benefit from the growing defense market. 48 companies have already completed the registration process, but only one company has won a contract, worth 2,6 mio Euros. That compares to 48 millions of contracts obtained by Bulgaria in 2023 alone. Even more went to Albania, where 10 companies got contracts worth more than 2 billion Euro.

Supplier registration is done via the SKSM Chamber of Commerce. The process requires submitting 18 different documents, including a balance sheet and list of buyers for the past three years. The process should take 30 days, after which a company has access to a NATO tender database. (See also here.)

Most countries, but not yet North Macedonia, have a liaison person with the NSPA, the NATO Support and Procurement Agency. NSPA executed contracts worth 10,6 bil. € in 2023. Current tenders can be seen here.

One opportunity for Macedonian and Belgian companies alike is the Military Clothing and Textiles Industry Day Event on November 10th, 2025. Registration is till September 2nd, for companies not registered in the NSPA source file as an active and eligible supplier, NSPA will seek confirmation of eligibility from national authorities.
