‘Single permit’ work applications should take just 90 days in Belgium starting 2026

Single permits are the process through which high-skilled and ‘bottleneck’ non-EU workers are granted permission to live and work in Belgium and other EU countries. The single permit replaces the separate residency and work permit.

A new Single Permit Directive was introduced in the EU. Belgium has until May to implement it. The new regulation brings an automatic extension to permits during the renewal process, which would mean permits remain valid until the renewal application is processed.
