International trade disputes lead to lower throughput of the Antwerp port

The Port of Antwerp-Bruges lost 4,1 % of the cargo throughput in 2025. Reasons cited are the trade tensions between Europe and the US, but also the war against Ukraine.

Biggest trading partner of Antwerp are the US, the increased LNG import is part of the reason. But container, car and steel exports to the US dropped. Container import from China increased 4 %, exports to China fell 4 %.

There is a risk of layoffs at the port.
