At the occasion of the 5th edition of the World Cocoa Conference, taking place on 21-24 April 2024 at the Brussels Convention Centre, it is a good time to have a look on the relation of Belgium with chocolate.

Belgium is the world’s second largest exporter of chocolate after Germany, exporting 668,000 tonnes of chocolate vs. 2,4 mio tonnes for Germany.

The production turnover is €6.1 billion, 56 % or €3.4 billion is exported. It employs 14,200 workers with 600 employers. That makes it about 10% of the total Belgian food industry. With €5.2 billion exports, that is 14.5 % of the total food industry exports.
