The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management has issued a complete ban on movement in forests and forest land from July 1st to August 31st, 2026.
Individuals who are found moving in forests and forest land will be fined from 1 500 to 2 000 euros.
Background for this decision is the heat, the drought and the danger of forest fires. The countries suffers nearly every year from extensive fires, most of them done intentionally.
The country had to fall back to the UCPM EU European civil protection mechanism of which the country is part. Bulgarian, Slovenian, Austrian and other fire fighters came to support with trained staff and material. Macedonian army units were called to support the local fire brigades.
The actual fire situation can be verified online from the EFFIS system.
