A part of the land of former Van Hool industrial site in Koningshooikt near Lier has been sold for 21,5 mio €, BelgaNews reports.

The Flemish government has offered 20 mio € to avoid that the land falls into the hand of speculators. Several bidders entered in the auction last minute, the dutch company G.A. Den Otter Trucks has made the best offer. The sale is not final as Van Hool’s creditors have to agree.

The sale to Den Otter was reported by the mayor Rik Verwaest. The local chamber of commerce Voka Mechelen-Kempen hopes that Den Otter will opt for an industrial use.

Production from the plant has been moved to North Macedonia after the company has been taken over by VDL. Some parts production, after sales and administration remains in Koningshooikt. VDL has also a factory in Roeselare in Belgium. The “Van Hool” brand remains for the top luxury coaches, while the local company is called VDL Bus Macedonia.
