The government announced a simplified “one stop”-system to register occasional and seasonal work.
The system was developed over several years with foreign donor support and is supposed to reduce the administrative steps necessary to register employees with the different administrations and to facilitate the payment of taxes and social security. The goal is to increase public revenues and reduce the grey economy. Nothing was communicated that this would include foreign workers and their permit process nor any connection to the Open Balkan work permit structure. Short term foreign assistance is often sought as seasonal helpers in tourism or agriculture.
To register the engagement, the personal identification number, a transaction account, and a phone number are needed. No deregistration is needed once the specified period expires. The system is connected to the Public Revenue Office. There are limits when this system can be used and it is not possible to use the simplifications for a regular employment.
