The acquisition of the French frozen bakery specialist Délifrance by Vandermoortele can go ahead. They will become the largest producer of frozen bakery products in Europe. BelgaNewsAgency reports that the final competition regulators have agreed to the deal.
This will add 3 200 people and 930 million € revenue to the 3 500 people and 1,4 billion € in Europe and the US of Vandermoortele. Together, Vandemoortele’s bakery division and Délifrance employ 6 000 people across 41 production sites in Europe, the United States and Asia and generate around 2.2 billion euros in revenue.
The European Commission approved the takeover late 2026, subject to Vandemoortele divesting two of Délifrance’s French factories. In the UK, Vandemoortele will have to divest its major puff pastry factory in Worcester, as well as a sales division in Staines-upon-Thames.
The Gent-based company Vandemoortele is the leading producer not only for bread, but also pastries, sweet treats like donuts and muffins, Italian savories like pizzas and patisserie products like pies and cakes. (See our report here).
